Some years ago Carlo and Mariella Pittorino, the sole owners of this ancient family house, decided to convert it into a High Quality Bed and Breakfast, visited by foreign customers, especially French and German. The building has the same well-defined style of a Neapolitan palace with two floors: the ground floor dates back to the beginning of 1800 and was a warehouse for capers, wines and Malvasia wine. Today it has been completely restored and transformed into 3 little holiday apartments with 4 bathrooms, wooden mezzanines (following the tradition where ancient mezzanines were already placed), rooms with vaulted ceilings up to 5 meters in height, glass floors to show old water tanks not in use anymore, kitchen areas with ancient majolica decorations from Amalfi (they were carried by the ships belonging to the great grandfather of the owner’s house, who was one of the first “sea merchants” of the island towards the half of 1800), handmade rustic furniture, vintage objects to furnish these rooms.

The first floor has also been completely restored and is suitable to be inhabited all year round. It is furnished with vintage art deco furniture belonging to the half of nineteenth century, with high frescoed ceilings. It is composed of 2 apartments: one with two double bedrooms of 35 mq with poster beds, fridge bar and an ultramodern bathroom in each room, hairdryer, strongbox, tv, small balconies with a view of the islands Lipari and Vulcano and of the Sicilian coast, independent entrance, kitchen with electrical appliances and an internal view of Salina’s mountains, a living room in liberty style with a tv, vhs player and a fourth guest bathroom with a whirlpool shower cabin. The other apartment consists of a bedroom with its own bathroom, second entrance on Progresso Street with marble stairs, a ground floor kitchen with internal terracotta stairs.

A cool garden, where there is always a background music, surrounds the house. In this garden there are lush exotic plants, whose seeds comes from the numerous travels of the great grandfather: banana trees, hibiscuses , pink pepper trees and a plant from Madagascar with medicinal properties, experimented by the illustrious grandfather, who, in 1910, invented a digestive “the eupeptic tonic Pittorino”. The area in front of the two first floor kitchens is brightened up by a dehors with piano bar and a pergola covered area where breakfast is served. This place is suitable for lunches and dinners, to be consumed in a peaceful atmosphere, beyond other relaxing areas with a rocking chair, deckchairs, sunbeds and a double barbecue.

The house is provided with a big fenced parking space, with 7 comfortable uncovered parking spots and one covered, paved with lava stone slabs and with sensor lights.

From the parking space there are comfortable stairs leading to a vegetable garden with tree fruits for all seasons and for the jams served by the mistress of the house for breakfast.
